The Lisbon Hash House Harriers (LH3) was inaugurated on 4 June 1987. We are a family hash and have regular hashers from 7 months to 70 years of age. We welcome families and dogs. Our hashes usually attract from 30-70 people. Hashes typically last for 2-2.5 hours, including sufficient time to catch your breath, and participate in the regroup party (hash circle) where snacks, soft drinks, wine and beer are consumed. At the hash circle we recognize newcomers (virgins), punish those who have committed misdemeanors (with beer penalties) and sing (mostly off key) traditional hash songs. We also have social events such as BBQ’s, dinners and weekend away hashes to interesting places in Portugal.
We meet every other Saturday at 13.45 behind the Estoril Casino for a walk, run or ramble through the countryside. From the Casino, we proceed by automobile to where the hash begins which is typically in the Sintra/Cascais area. Both a runners’ (Rambos) and a walkers (Wimps) route are set. The walkers’ route is normally about 5-7 kilometers and the runners’ loop about 12 kilometers. To defer the cost of snacks and refreshments, we collect a nominal fee of five euros for anyone over 12 years of age, and two euros for participants from 6-11 years; anyone under the age of six is free. The maximum fee per family is limited to 15 euros.
